San Francisco-based company Level continually blows me away with their innovative products, superior sourcing, and mad science. Level co-founder and chief scientist Chris Emerson, Ph.D., loves to experiment with various cannabinoids—like CBG, THCA, and THCV—and different form factors. The latest is their line of cannabis-infused gum!
The gum comes in three different options: CBD, Hybrid THC, and now THCV! Level worked on perfecting the formulation for a while, and the cannabinoids are distributed homogeneously throughout the gum, instead of just the coating, so you still get some benefits as you chew it. Plan on chewing for at least 10 minutes or so for maximum absorption—the THCV is absorbed through the blood vessels in your mouth.
The THCV gum has ~4mg of tetrahydrocannabivarin, a cannabinoid heralded for its supposed energizing and appetite-suppressing effects. I’ve been enjoying THCV in Level’s Stimulate Tablinguals for a while, and use it for work, road trips, going out, and combating afternoon sleepy time (which is handy timing because the THCV can also helps stave off afternoon hangries).
There is also a little CBG in there (~1mg) to help soften the effects of the THCV and keep users from being too amped (kind of like the dampening effect CBD has on THC). Fun fact: THCV can also dial down the intensity of THC, and reduce paranoia and some of THC’s psychoactive effects.
I don’t feel a noticeable rush after chewing the gum for 10 minutes—it’s more like a buzz in the background, with some vroom. I describe it as feeling like a shot of espresso, but without the jitters. There’s a tiny bit of euphoria, but not like THC. And then [knuckle crack] it’s time to get shit done! Gimme that spreadsheet.
The gum has a nice, minty flavor (from natural mint), with just a little whisper of cannabis—it’s almost undetectable when you first bite into it. It’s sugar-free and gluten-free, and sweetened with Xylitol. Good texture too—not chalky.
I love how discreet it is—who would guess that it’s cannabis gum you’re chomping on? And even though I’m not a gum-chewer, I like the format—it’s totally portable and easy to carry around. A little party in your pocket.
